A Snapshot of our Puppy Raising Process & Outcomes:
- Puppies will be raised with a mix of Puppy Culture and Avidog protocols, including Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI).
- Puppies will have exposure to nail trimming, grooming, bathing, and handling; car rides and lots of time outside; novel sights, sounds, surfaces, and experiences; new people of all shapes and sizes; a couple of stable, trustworthy adult dogs in addition to their dam; various food proteins; and more.
- Puppies will have introductions to clicker training, crate training, and potty training (but will need ongoing training in their long-term homes!).
- Puppies will experience their first live bird exposure.
- Puppies will be microchipped and receive their first round of distemper & parvo vaccinations in addition to a general health check-up from a veterinarian.
- Puppies will go home between 8-9 weeks old with detailed health & evaluation records, AKC registration (limited registration or full registration on co-ownership), a “go-home bag” of necessities and keepsakes, & a lifetime of support.
Our typical puppy purchase process is as follows:
- Optional (at any time!): Contact us with questions about the breed and/or our program! We are happy to spread the good word about the breed or talk about our goals, regardless if you are looking for a puppy or not.
- Fill out & submit our Puppy Application.
- Video Call with us – this is a two-way interview guided by the information provided through our Puppy Application.
- If both parties agree to move forward, we will send a copy of our boilerplate puppy purchase contract for your reference and review (which will be customized based on your needs/goals and the puppy(s) available).
- If the boilerplate puppy purchase contract is agreeable, you give us the “all-in” and we will add you to our waitlist.
- Shortly after puppies are born, we will contact those on our waitlist to let them know a puppy is available for them. When the puppies are around 2 weeks old, we will request a non-refundable deposit to hold your spot.
- When the puppies are around 7-8 weeks old, based on evaluations by us and trusted mentors, we will pair each puppy to each family. We do not allow families to pick their puppy; however, we will take each family’s needs and goals into account when matching them with a puppy. We find this method best to ensure a successful match.
- When the puppies are around 8-9 weeks old, we will organize a “Puppy Pickup Party” at our home in San Diego, CA. We will finalize payments and paperwork, answer questions, have lunch, take photos, and send you home with your new adventure buddy! We do not ship puppies – we may be able to hold a puppy slightly past 8-9 weeks or work with you to find suitable accommodations for your puppy if you are unable to pick them up at the puppy party.
- For the lifetime of your puppy, we provide support, encouragement, and (god forbid) a soft place to land should your puppy ever need it. Due to our commitment to preservation of the Drentsche Patrijshond, we have a vested interest in each of the puppies we produce, whether they go on to be breeding candidates, sport dogs, or beloved family pets.
Thank you for your interest! We will reply with next steps as soon as possible.
