About Us

Ellie Ovrom (née Perry) lives in San Diego, CA with her husband Andrew, daughter Harper, and two dogs – Kaia the APBT-mix, and Iris the Drentsche Patrijshond.
By day, Ellie is a technical project manager in the medical device industry, with a background in biomedical engineering and product development. She also enjoys spending time in the outdoors, reading fantasy novels, and cooking for family & friends. But her biggest passion is dogs.
Ellie has spent thousands of hours since 2018 reading, watching, and listening to books, videos, courses, webinars, and podcasts ranging from pet dog training to preservation breeding to dog-sport specific skills. She is also fortunate to have many excellent mentors in pet dog training, sport dog training, and preservation breeding, and has taken dozens of in-person and online group classes and private lessons. She has spent time shadowing both pet dog and sport dog trainers in hands-on environments, and has instructed novice-level Rally Obedience and Scent Work classes/workshops.
Our main purposes for sharing this website are to advocate for fulling relationships between dogs and people (RuffCoast), and to advocate for the preservation of the Drentsche Patrijshond (Meliora).
Ellie and Andrew are co-founding & charter members of the American Drentsche Patrijshond Association, where Andrew currently serves as President and Ellie as Secretary. Ellie is also an active member of the Vereniging de Drentsche Patrijshond, the Drentsche Patrijshonden Club Nederland, co-founder and Vice President of the Scent Work Club of San Diego, a member of North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association International and the NAVHDA San Diego Chapter, and a member of North American Canicross.
Ellie has now contributed to several publications, including the ADPA and SWCSD club newsletters, the VDPH’s magazine Onze Drent (Breeding Across the World), Canine Chronicle (Drentsche Patrijshond: The Rare Dutch Gundog for Field, Farm, and Family co-authored with Brian O’Connor), Pure Dog Talk (Harnessing Youth to Build New Clubs), and Showsight Magazine (The Drentsche Patrijshond: Excellence in Moderation).
